School Tour to Glasnevin Cemetery, The National Botanic Gardens and NAC

Today we enjoyed our annual school tour to Glasnevin Cemetery, the Botanic Gardens and the National Aquatic Centre in Blanchardstown. We were very lucky with the weather and the trip to Glasnevin brought the history in our books to life. It was very interesting to visit the graves of numerous historical figures in Ireland's history including those who had been involved in the 1916 Rising including Michael Collins and Éamon De Valera. and Charles Stewart Parnell. A particular favourite was Daniel O'Connell's tower and crypt where we all took an opportunity to touch his coffin to earn the reputed god luck associated with it! Afterwards, we were amazed at the plants and trees in the Desert and Amazon glasshouses in the National Botanic Gardens. It was very hot and humid in there! To end the day trip we enjoyed a whale of a time in the National Aquatic Centre before making the quick bus trip home to St.Michael's.
