Exploring Ancient Civilizations

This week, our art activity was connected to our history topic on the people of the Tigris and Euphrates rivers, located in present-day Iraq. These ancient civilizations thrived between the two rivers in an area known as the Fertile Crescent. Each year, both rivers would overflow, transforming the land into a swamp. Once it dried out, this land became ideal for farming.

As farming developed, trade also emerged. To manage their growing trade activities, people began recording transactions on clay slabs using pictures and symbols. This activity allowed us to explore cause and effect, how one development leads to another and helped us to understand how writing originated in ancient civilizations.
