St. Michael's were delighted to re-enter both of the annual inter-school spelling competitions again this year. Each Fifth and Sixth class teacher sent forward their own class representatives following some in class rounds of spelling. Over thirty boys then progressed to the school event. Our three representatives were selected following a very competitive school competition. Harry O'Donnell was our overall Spelling Bee Champion and on April 16th, he represented us in the Dublin regional finals of the national competition, the Easons Spelling Bee competition. Harry performed extremely well and succeeded in progressing to the final rounds before unfortunately being knocked out. The following day, Harry was joined on the school team for the AIJS School Competition, on April 17th, by Tiernan Fogarty and Oisín Govender. Tiernan and Harry also represented us in last year's AIJS while they were both in Fifth class. All three boys acquitted themselves with distinction and were all eventually knocked out in one of the final rounds to finish in joint 10th position overall. This was literally three correct spellings away from outright victory! We are very proud of the boys and their performance. Their polite manner and quiet confidence throughout the competitions were a joy to behold. We are very grateful to the parents of all three representatives who kindly travelled over on both days and supported the boys in their spelling endeavours.
