Throughout the week, pupils from all classes got involved in our inaugral Heritage Week. The week saw a lovely mixture of activities that explored both our tangible and intangible heritage. All classes performed a lovely rendition of The Salley Gardens. The Salley Gardens is a poem by W. B. Yeats set to a traditional Irish tune. We were so fortunate to have beautiful accompaniment on the uilleann pipes. A huge thank you all the teachers who prepared the boys for the performance.
One of the big highlights was when the Senior pupils had the chance to tour St Michael’s House with Ms Heslin. As the week progressed, classes also visited local buildings like RTÉ, the RDS, Donnybrook church and Merrion Road church. It was a great way to explore how these buildings and organisations have helped shape our local area and Irish life in general.
Throughout the week, the pupils also had many opportunities to celebrate their cultural heritage. In addition to singing, they listened to folktales and learned about the importance of the harp as Ireland’s emblem. We were very fortunate to have singer and harpist Orla Fallon perform for the boys whilst discussing the significance of the harp in Irish society.
All of these highlights may be seen here.
A huge thank you must go to Ms. Potts for organising a wonderfully rich and important week for the boys and for preparing the beautiful accompanying video.
