Dear Parents,
It is with great sadness and a profound sense of loss that I inform you of the death of Ms. Bonnie Shortall, which has taken place.
Many of you were familiar with Bonnie who did downstairs morning duty each day. Bonnie grew up in the lodge at St. Michael’s College as her late parents, Maurice and Elizabeth, were long –serving members of staff. Bonnie came to work in St. Michael’s in 1976 and since then has endeared herself to generations of boys, parents and staff. After she retired from her cleaning duties, she continued to come in each morning, with Mary, to help with the supervision rota. Bonnie became ill just before the holidays and was hospitalised. In the past days, her condition remained critical until her peaceful death earlier today.
Bonnie will be sorely missed by all of us in the St. Michael’s community, who have so many fond memories of her quick wit, constant support, loyal friendship and absolute devotion to the boys. Her death breaks a link between the Shortall family and St. Michael's which goes back to the earliest years of the school.
We offer our sincere sympathy to Mary and to Bonnie’s family and friends. May she rest in peace.
Kind regards,
Lorna Heslin
Principal
