Exploring the Science of Sound

Third Form 2's inspiring journey with Evelyn Glennie

Exploring the Science of Sound

During Science Week, Third Form 2 explored the science of sound. We began by studying the renowned Scottish percussionist Evelyn Glenny, a unique and inspiring musician who is deaf.

Evelyn Glennie has demonstrated that music is not only heard but also felt through vibrations. To test this concept, we used balloons to experience these vibrations, shifting our focus away from listening.

Next, we constructed a sound wave in class using barbecue skewers, masking tape and sweets to investigate how sound travles through the air before being processed by our brains. These lessons were both inspiring and engaging.
